The Good Shepherd Sisters History

Mary Euphrasia Pelletier was the founder of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. In 1835 she established the firsthouse in an old factory and called it “Bon Pasteur” (Good Shepherd) to provide care and protection for women and girls who were homeless and at risk of exploitation. Mary Euphrasia came to believe that if the work was to grow, that each house should be under the direction of a generalate. She founded additional convents in Le Mans, Poitiers, Grenoble and Metz. She was canonized on May 2nd, 1940.

Today, the Good Shepherd Sisters home expands over 73 countries. The first house of the Good Shepherd Sister in Thailand was established in  Bangkok in 1965. At present, the Good Shepherd Sisters home has branched out to 6 +1 cities, Bangkok, Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Nongkhai, Pattaya, Phuket and Cambodia (Satellite of Thailand).

Across the world for almost 200 years Good Shepherd Sisters have been providing courageous and compassionate services to women, girls and families to assist them overcome disadvantage.
